THE SCIENCE OF INBODY 970

A small signal.
A deeper understanding.

The InBody 970 uses direct segmental multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance analysis, or BIA. Here is what that means in practice.

SEGMENTAL ANALYSIS05 REGIONS
Five regions assessed by the InBody 970A front-facing body illustration showing the person's right arm, left arm, trunk, right leg and left leg. Highlight a region using the buttons below. RIGHT ARMLEFT ARMTRUNKRIGHT LEGLEFT LEG

The trunk is assessed as its own segment, alongside both arms and both legs.

01 / THE SIGNAL

Water carries the current.

A very small alternating electrical current passes through contact points at your hands and feet. Water and electrolytes conduct it; body tissues resist and delay it in different ways. That response is called impedance.3

02 / THE MEASUREMENT

Different frequencies. Five regions.

The 970 measures impedance across each arm, each leg and the trunk using eight frequencies, from 1 kHz to 3 MHz. Multiple frequencies help distinguish water inside cells from water outside them.13

03 / THE ESTIMATE

Turning signals into composition.

The device uses impedance, your height and measured weight to estimate water and fat-free mass, then body fat. Muscle and other report values are calculated from the assessment; they are not direct images of your tissues.3

40 impedance measurements. Eight frequencies across five segments.1

READ YOUR BODY WITH CONTEXT

What your
results can tell you.

Each marker answers a different question. Explore the results below to see how they fit together—and where interpretation matters.

BODY FAT MASS · PERCENT BODY FAT01 / 06

Understand your fat composition.

Body fat mass and percentage describe estimated fat in relation to your weight. The report also provides an estimate of visceral fat area—the fat around abdominal organs.

KEEP IN MIND

Visceral fat area is an estimate, not a CT or MRI image of abdominal fat. A result alone does not diagnose disease.

MEASUREMENT WITH PERSPECTIVE

Useful insight.
Honest interpretation.

Consistency matters more than a single reading.

Body composition estimates can shift with hydration, recent meals, exercise and testing conditions. Repeat tests are most useful when you use the same device and follow similar preparation each time.4

What does the research show?

A 2022 study compared InBody 970 and another high-frequency BIA device with DXA in 109 Korean adults. It found good agreement for several body composition estimates, alongside some measurement bias and limits to generalisation. The study was funded by InBody. These findings support informed use, without guaranteeing an exact result for every individual.8

This is a wellness baseline assessment. It does not replace a medical examination, blood tests or diagnostic imaging.

BEFORE YOUR VISIT

A little preparation.
A more consistent baseline.

Follow the team's appointment instructions. These manufacturer recommendations help make results easier to compare.4

01

Plan around meals

Leave at least three hours after your last meal before testing.

02

Keep hydration normal

Maintain your usual fluid intake the day before. Avoid arriving deliberately dehydrated.

03

Arrive rested

Do not test straight after exercise. Allow recovery, and stand upright for 5–10 minutes before the scan.

04

Keep contact clear

Use the restroom first. Remove socks and heavy accessories; avoid lotion on hands and feet.

A NOTE ON SUITABILITY

If you have a pacemaker or another implanted electronic medical device, contact the team and your treating clinician before arranging a test. Also tell us about pregnancy, implants or difficulty standing. Routine testing during pregnancy is not recommended because results are difficult to interpret.5

A FEW THINGS TO KNOW

Your questions,
answered.

What is included in the complimentary offer?

Daily lifestyle analysis and health baseline measurement with an InBody 970 test, plus a guided explanation of the results. Blood tests, medical diagnosis, training sessions and other therapies are not part of this offer.

How long does it take?

The InBody 970 scan itself takes approximately 90 seconds. Your visit also includes preparation, lifestyle discussion and a results explanation. Ask the team for the full appointment duration when booking.1

Is it the same as a medical health screening?

No. This assessment offers body composition estimates and a review of daily routines. It does not test blood sugar, cholesterol or organ function, and it cannot rule out medical conditions. Discuss symptoms or medical concerns with a qualified healthcare professional.

Does “lean mass” mean muscle?

Not exactly. Fat-free mass includes water, muscle, organs and other non-fat tissue. Skeletal muscle mass is a separate estimated result. Segmental lean analysis helps compare the distribution of lean tissue, rather than directly measuring muscle strength.23

Can I use the results to plan my calories?

Estimated basal metabolic rate provides context about resting energy needs. It is not your total daily calorie requirement: activity and other factors also matter. Treat it as one input to a personalised nutrition discussion.6
